Information for Fly Away Peter (1958)
Fly Away Peter, was a Play directed by Mary Kelley. Holsworthy in 1958 was a rather different animal from the Holsworthy of 2007. We recall the words of Arthur Whitlock, former Chairman of tp and member of the Town Council back at that time. There was an impassioned debate on the proposal to allow Sunday cricket in the Park. Arthur thundered, if this is allowed, we stand at the top of a slippery slope. Little did he know how steep and long that slope would be. This is an illustration of why the clock in Fly Away Peter caused a stir. Fly Away Peter, our first play, ran from 13th to 17th May 1958, (Holsworthy Show week) The show had excellent audiences for the five nights. However,to return to the clock, which never kept the right time, with the result that at the end of the play Geoff Tuckers line was damn that clock. The people of the Town said they enjoyed the play but there was no excuse for bad language!
